Teach Us to Number Our Days
 
1. Life is uncertain, we cannot be sure,
What is awaiting beyond the next door.
Sickness and suffering. Trials and death.
Will the next moment begin the last breath.

2. Man is a shadow, he comes and he goes,
Man is a flower, his frail - ty shows.
Grass in the meadow, he dies in the sun,
Starting to fade, though he's barely begun. 

1st Refrain:
Teach us to number our days.
All these last moments, to use to Your praise.
Taking each challenge, to follow Your ways.

3. Earth's little life span is not guaranteed.
Wisdom and courage and guidance we need.
Open our eyes, let us see the truth plain,
Making the most of the hours that remain. 

4. Teach us our Father, as long as we live,
Each of our life days a number to give.
Death comes to everyone, that's no surprise,
Number the days, so our hearts may be wise.

5. Soon comes the close of probation for all.
Have we been faithful to answer the call.
Still we can hear mercy's lingering strains, 
Seek the Creator, while life still remains.
