The Narrow Way

1. The road that leads to heaven grows narrower each day,
    And it will cost us all we have to climb this upward way.
But love propels us onward, our Lord has gone before;
    He has made the pathway plain to heaven’s open door.

2. All wisdom’s ways are pleasant; her ev’ry path is peace.
    From fighting and from fearing we have found a sweet release.
It’s only where You lead us that we are truly free.
    You give ev’rything we need, and joy abundantly.

And all that You require of us to leave along the way
    Is nothing but a steppingstone that leads to brighter day;
For ev’ry loss we suffer here, You more than compensate,
    And work far greater blessing than we can anticipate.

3. We cannot but look forward to new perplexities;
    The conflict rages ev’ry day with fresh intensity.
But when we glance behind us and see all You have done,
    We are sure there’s grace enough no matter what may come.
