Self-Abnegation

1. Lucifer, angel pure;
Leader of the heav’nly choir;
Sought to rise above his place,
Fell instead to shame, disgrace.

2. Baptist John, voice of one,
Crying ‘neath the desert sun;
Always putting self aside,
Shows the Bridegroom to the Bride.

3. Ellen White, lesser light;
Pointing to the greater Light;
All her writings lead and draw,
To the Bible, to the Law.

4. Sacred Law, without flaw,
Perfect image of our God;
Lead us, guide us, unto Him
Who can put thy code within.

5. God’s own Son, Holy One;
That His Father’s will be done,
Humbled to a death of shame,
To exalt His Father’s name.

6. Lord on high, so must I
From self-exaltation fly!
Make me modest, meek and low,
That I may Thy beauty show.
