Ellen G. WhiteThese songs are based on sentences or paragraphs from the writings of Ellen White (1827-1915).

From an early age God called her to write and speak His message; a message opening up the truths of the Bible. The knowledge and practice of those truths will prepare the believers to meet their Lord at His return.

Her books are the best in this class available anywhere in the world today; for example, her book on the life of Christ, The Desire of Ages, is unequalled in it’s spiritual depth, intellectual clarity, and beauty of language. But just as it was in Jesus’ time, so it is today—very few recognize the Shepherd’s voice through His chosen agents.

Isaiah 53
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

The songs based on her writings fall into two classes:

  1. Some paragraphs from her writings were paraphrased into poetry, then music was composed to fit.
  2. A sentence or sentences were taken directly from her writings, and music was composed to fit.

Having spent many years reading Christian poetry, especially the better known poets of the last 300 years, I have to say that some of Ellen White’s writings are so beautifully phrased that they are almost poetry, and lend themselves very readily to music. Here are some examples of what can be done.
